Abstract
Nowadays, the English language has spread all over the world. English is used for virtually all purposes, from entertainment and keeping up with popular culture to business meetings and writing scientific papers. It is getting more and more difficult to get a job if you do not speak English. The dominance of English also means that the knowledge of other languages takes a backseat. The question that needs answering is – can English be the only global language and the main instrument of communication in the world? To answer this question, the relationship between language and culture should be considered. The dominance of English goes hand in hand with the dominance of Anglo-American culture. The current situation has resulted in some negative consequences which we have to be aware of when discussing whether the dominance of a single language all over the world is justified or not.
