Abstract

Although it is a newer concept, crowdsourcing is already used in a lot of different ways worldwide. As a sublevel of crowdsourcing, games with a purpose are used as well. Those are the two main subjects of this thesis. First part of the thesis discusses crowdsourcing, provides examples and also shows use of crowdsourcing in heritage institutions. Some problems are identified while recognizing possibilities for crowdsourcing use in future. Since Croatia doesn't have many, or at all, examples of crowdsourcing, a possible model for implementation in Croatia is given. A project concept using an existing collection from the Knjižnice grada Zagreba is proposed. Second part of the thesis is exploring games with a purpose. Multiple definitions are given as well as examples which are used in heritage institutions. Gamification is defined, which is an important term for games with a purpose. A comparison of two games with a purpose using web platforms is given. Finally the author gives conclusion about common usage of crowdsourcing and games with a purpose in heritage institutions and estimates what is the future potential and how it can be used in Croatia.
