Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine relationships between music performance anxiety (MPA), perfectionism and anxiety sensitivity (AS) among professional orchestral musicians in Zagreb, as well as to acquire better insight into some of the characteristics of this population. The data was collected on a sample of 88 members of professional orchestras with comparable qualifications in Zagreb, who provided responses to Kenny Music Performance Anxiety Inventory-Revised (K-MPAI-R), Almost Perfect Scale-Revised (APS-R) nad Anxiety Sensitivity Index (ASI). Participants reported moderate to low levels of MPA. MPA correlated positively with maladaptive perfectionism (MP) (r(84)=.53; p<.001), AS (r(84)=.70; p<.001) and its dimensions of which psychological concerns showed highest correlation with MPA. Furthermore, MP and AS (r(85)=.34; p=.001), including its dimensions also correlated positively. Maladaptive perfectionism, psychological and social concerns were found significant predictors of MPA. Furthermore, a mediation effect was found: AS partially explain the correlation between MP and MPA. The results also provide an insight into, so far insufficiently researched MPA among adult, proffesional musicians and provides certain guidelins for conducting future research in this field of study.
