Abstract

The goal of this research was to examine the relationship between androgyny, cultural intelligence and global behavioural flexibility and to examine the possible mediating effect of cultural intelligence on the relationship between androgyny and global behavioural flexibility. The sample consisted of 475 participants, of which 210 were employees and 265 were students. On the overall sample there was 330 female participants and 145 male. The main instruments used in this research were three self-reported measures: The Bem sex role inventory, Battery of interpersonal capabilities (only 4 dimensions), and cultural intelligence scale. In the statistical analysis pearsons coefficients were used to examine the relationship between androgyny, global behavioural flexibility and cultural intelligence. Results showed small positive correlations between three measures and confirmed our first hypothesis. For the second part of research we used hierarchical regression analysis and Hayes PROCESS to determine the mediating effect of cultural intelligence on the relationship between androgyny and global behavioural flexibility. The results showed that both androgyny and cultural intelligence were significant predictors of global behavioural flexibility and that there was partial mediating effect of cultural intelligence on relationship between androgyny and global behavioural flexibility. The direct effect of androgyny on global behavioural flexibility was significantly lower (but still significant) when we introduced cultural intelligence as mediator variable.
