Abstract
Results of the bioarchaeological analysis of frequency and distribution of
cribrae orbitaliae as indicator of subadult stress based on osteological material found
during archaeological excavations at two archeological sites; Stenjevec, dated to the
Middle Ages (11th, 12th and 13th century) in Zagreb and archaeological site located
in the area around the church of St. Nicholas bishop in Žumberak (17th and 18th
century), dated to Modern period are presented in this paper. Different frequencies
are shown in the analysis of cribrae orbitaliae of the two sites. Higher incidence of
CO and shorter life expectancy are reported at Stenjevec site, possibly due to the
different geographical location, habitual activities related to survival, diet, cultural
practices and historical events as well as demographic processes.
