Abstract
This paper aims to present types of war veterans’ organisations and their interaction with the state and society at large in historical perspective. Using the experience of three large European countries during the period between two world wars we’ll try to analyse public and political activities of veterans’ movements in the context of different types of social policy developed for war wounded and returning soldiers. In conclusion, we present views on whether veteran’s organizations foster specific political attitudes and style of involvement in day-to-day interwar politics apart from their material and symbolic demands from the state.
