Abstract
The aim of this study was to examine the moderating effects of initated and received task interdependence on the relationship between two interpersonally oriented personality traits (extraversion and agreeableness) and task performance. The study was conducted on 202 employed adults whose task was to complete a battery of instruments. Personality traits were assessed using the Croatian version of the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP50; Mlačić i Goldberg, 2007), task performance was assessed using the Task Performance Questionnaire (Williams & Anderson, 1991) and task interdependence was measured using the Task Interdependence Questionnaire as part of the Work Design Questionnaire (Morgeson & Humphrey, 2006). The results indicate that initiated task interdependence has a significant moderating effect on the relationship between agreeableness and task performance, but the interaction is negative. Contrary to expectations, the relationship between agreeableness and task performance is stronger at low levels of initiated task interdependence and insignificant at high levels of initated task interdependence.
