Abstract
This paper discusses relatively new paradigm in modern archiving which is gaining more momentum in the last few decades. Paradigm is based on community archives, archives in whose creation the community of people who gather around a common theme plays the key role and based on that theme creates its collections. The goal of the paper is to answer the questions when and how such archives began to emerge, how are they defined, how they relate to traditional archival science, how and with whose help the creators of such archives can ensure their sustainability, and to show, through examples of such existing archives in United Kingdom how it really works.
