Abstract
The study has been conducted in order to explore the relations between the self-concept and mate estimation. Self-concept is defined by scales of self-esteem and model of self and others. The study was conducted on a sample of 318 participants, 150 men and 168 women. Participants were in romantic relationships and aged between 18 and 35 years. The results showed that self-esteem is in relation with the model of self, with partcipants with positive model of self having on average higher self-esteem in comparison to those with negative model of self. Main effect of the model of others and the interaction between the model of self and the model of others were not significant for self-esteem. Participants with positive model of self gave higher mate estimations on the factors of warmth and attractiveness than those with negative model of self, while there was no difference in mate estimation on factor of resources. Finally, participants with high self-esteem gave on average higher mate estimations on the factors of warmth, attractiveness and resources in comparison to those with low self-esteem.
