Abstract

Verification of the factor structure of the SITA questionnaire was conducted with the aim of confirming the assumption about instrumental value of physical exercise and different sources of pleasure which it provides to those who take it regularly. The current structure was compared to the factor structure of the authors Horga and Baršnik, who have constructed it, as well as to dimensions of Kenyon's physical exercise model, based on which it had been constructed. Identification of seven latent dimensions isolated by authors was expected, as well as certification of the three consistent with the dimensions of Kenyon's model. Testing was conducted on 258 male students of three technical faculties of the University of Zagreb. Factor analysis by common factors with oblimin rotation fixed at seven factors explained 47.1% of the total variance. Six latent dimensions were isolated: an attempt to achieve pleasant and useful consequences of exercise, an urge for danger, social experience, concern for your health, a need for playing and an urge to develop personal capacities. The four dimensions were identical to SITA factors, whereas the two were similar to SITA factors and equal to Kenyon's model factors. Aesthetic experience was not confirmed due to poor reliability. The differences in individual factors of the questionnaire was confirmed among participants who neither do any sports nor ever did and those who have either done some sports, or are still in any way doing it. The latter showed greater propensity for different aspects of physical activities due to which people go in for it.
