Abstract

This work examines the relationship of trait-emotional intelligence, also known as emotional self-efficacy with eight emotional dimensions from Plutchik Circumplex Model of Emotions. On the basis of emotional dimensions it is possible to evaluate the emotional stability of the individual. In this study emotional stability is measured with Emotions Profile Index (Plutchik and Kellerman, 1964), and emotional self-efficacy with Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue, Petrides and Furnham, 2001). It is assumed that the older concept of emotional stability and a newer concept of emotional self-efficacy examine someone's perceptions about their own typical behavior in comparison with others. Results obtained on a sample of 24 men and 31 women participants showed that, there is a connection between some dimensions of emotional stability and the main factors of emotional self-efficacy, as expected. TEIQue factor Well-being shared 9% variance with the dimension of Fear and 18% with the Sociability dimension. TEIQue Sociability factor shared 14% variance with the dimension of Fear, 12% with the Unrestraint dimension and 7% with the dimension called Depression. Self-control is associated with all dimensions except Depression, Control and Fear. Emotionality is most associated with the dimensions of Sociability (25% shared variance), Aggression (10%) and Confidentiality (8%). The research results indicate that emotional self-efficacy is low to moderately associated with the assessment of emotional stability, but the relationship between the individual components of these constructs is somewhat different than originally assumed
