Abstract
Although connection between parental perfectionism and child’s perfectionism till now has been proven many times on adults, on children only few such research have been conducted. Therefore, the aim of our study was to examine the relationship of child’s perfectionism and parental perfectionism. Additionaly, the relationship of child’s and parental perfectionism with the child’s self-esteem was examined. Adaptive/Maladaptive Perfectionism Scale (Rice & Preusser, 2002) was used for measuring child’s perfectionism, Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale (Terry-Short, Owens, Slade & Dewey, 1995) for parental perfectionism and Coopersmith’s Self-esteem Scale (Lacković-Grgin, Proroković, Ćubela & Penezić, 2002) for child’s self-esteem. The survey was conducted on a convenience sample of 369 pupils of elementary schools and high schools. The results show that there is no significant relationship between dimensions of child’s and parental perfectionism. Significant relationship was found between child’s perfectionism and child’s self-esteem, while between parental perefectionism and child’s self-esteem there was no significant relationship.
