Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the eating disorder prevention program that has been implemented in high schools in Zagreb and to examine relationship between measured constructs. The quasi-experimental evaluation design was a pretest-posttest nonequivalent comparison group design with measurements applied before and after the intervention. The sample consisted of third-grade high school female students assigned to intervention (n = 81) and comparison (n = 115) group. The Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSS), Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ-8C) and the Contour Drawing Rating Scale (CDRS) were administered on participants. The girls were also asked to write their weight and height in order to calculate their Body Mass Index (BMI). After the intervention the results have shown an increase in self-esteem in the intervention group, but also in the comparison group. Due to that, the increase in self- esteem cannot be attributed to the treatment. Results on BSQ-8C and CDRS were not changed in the posttest in any group. Significant negative correlation was found between results on RSS and BSQ-8C, and also between RSS and CDRS. Results have shown significant and positive correlation between BSQ-8C and CDRS. Participants with higher BMI showed lower self-esteem, greater body dissatisfaction and they perceived greater difference between their own and ideal body.
