Abstract
The aim of the present study was to verify the main postulates of work engagement in the student population. The participants in the study were students from six faculties of the University of Zagreb. The data were collected using The Core Self-Evaluations Scale, Utrecht Work Engagement Scale for students and Occupational preferences scale. The congruence between professional interests and the chosen faculty was calculated using Iachan indeks. Results obtained by hierarchical regression analysis indicate that congruence between professional interests and the chosen faculty predicts study engagement besides dispositional variable of core self-evaluations. Core self-evaluationas proved to be a significat dispositional predictor of academic achievement and study satisfaction, while the congruence proved not to be significant in predicting the specified criteria. Study engagement predicts academic achievement and study satisfaction on top of core self-evaluations and congruence.
