First part of the research was conducted through focus groups in the spring of 2012. This research, with targeted sample of pen and paper gamers, was made up by three groups of which every one was different
regarding years of play, mutual connection and momentary activity in play. The other part of the research was conducted via survey in the end of 2012. also on a targeted
sample of video game gamers (N=214). The focus groups were foundation for making of the survey which was then distributed online. Based on the other part of the
research (survey) certain typology of escapist gamers was found. Typology was gained by factory analysis which produced six latent dimensions – creative escapist, healthy
escapist, casual or convenient escapist, borderline escapist, concealed escapist and compensating escapist. These types were subjected to further analysis, namely: they
were brought in connection to certain traits of personality, feelings that gamers had after play, play frequency of certain genres, play frequency in general and addiction self assessment.
