Abstract
This paper tried to explain how one noble family, the Patačići, have treated the cultural landscapes on their estates. The concept of cultural landscapes, as properties representing the master-work created by nature or man, is found in European tradition of landscape painting. Observing and analyzing images presented in Status familiae Patachich, a work which contains history of significant members of the family and their properties, it is obvious that cultural landscapes were used for agricultural and esthetical purposes. Furthermore, landscapes served as a means of representing social status, economic power and cultural capital. Thus, noble family Patačić demonstrated their wealth and prerogatives. During long period of time, majority of the landscapes surrounding the residencies, on former estates of the family Pataĉić, changed. Unfortunately, transformation was in most cases negative and made by human intervention. Nowadays, society needs to protect and preserve remaining ones.
