Abstract

Today, a growing number of people are regularly using computers, but only a small number of them are thinking about the potential damage that may arise from misuse of information technology. In recent years, privacy has become a burning topic on the Internet, so we are seeing a wide variety of malicious programs that attack personal data of which are the most endangered passwords and credit card numbers. As a response to the emergence of spyware, small industries that deal with antispyware tools have appeared. They detect, remove and block spyware. Anti-spyware programs can combat spyware in two ways: They can provide real time protection against the installation of spyware software on the computer, but there are Anti-spyware software programs that can be used solely for detection and removal of spyware software that has already been installed onto the computer. Such programs inspect the contents of the Windows registry, the operating system files, and installed programs, and remove files and entries which match a list of known spyware components. In this work, it was presented seven well-known and frequently used anti-spyware tools such as: SpyBot Search&Destroy, Ad- Aware, Spyware Terminator and Windows Defender, which are free, and Spy Sweeper, Spyware Doctor i Ewido Antispyware that can be used with subscription. The growing phenomenon on the Internet are fake antispyware programs which represents as help to remove spyware, but actually they install spyware on our computer.
