Abstract

First part of this paper is a summary of basic principles in archival arrangement and description. In chapter 'arrangement' I will talk about: principle of provenance and original order as basic approach to archival arrangement, units of archival material (fonds/collections, groups, subgroups) and the process alone. Chapter 'description' deals with international standards ISAD(G), ISAAR(CPF) and ISDF together with the brief description of MARC standard. A brief examination of summary guides is also included. Second subject of this work is based upon my own experience in working with archival arrangement and description during my practice in 'Državni arhiv u Zagrebu'. It contains examples of standardized description, analytical inventory and name glossary.
