Abstract
In this work I will denote basic topics of Marcuse's understanding of aesthetic notion. Marcuse criticised traditional aesthetic systems (where historical materialism represents its foundation) and tried to establish critical theory of „superstructure“ i.e. art. Marcuse predominantly leans on works by Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud. His main intention is to permeate into structure of contemporary world which is defined by the industrial society and burgeois „spirit“, and also to explain genesis, structue and historic role of cultural i.e. art production.
