Abstract

A brief overview of the history of scientific communication through journals, especially in the field of biomedicine and health, as well as chronological listing of Croatian biomedical research and/or professional periodicals from the early 20th century to the present is an introduction to the analysis of the development and characteristics of the journal Medicinski vjesnik, which is a newsletter of Osijek hospital but also all other health institutions in Slavonia. The survey covers bibliometric analysis of the journal Medicinski vjesnik for the period from 1969 to 1981: the publication dynamics, language, author’s analysis and the analysis of institutions from which the authors of the articles come from, analysis of references (number, type, age) and the journal self-citations.
