Abstract
The goal of this study was to determine the relationship between Morningness-Eveningness, time-of-day and pressure pain threshold. On four body locations (right and left arm and right and left side of the neck), pain thresholds were measured on two testing sessions (twice on each session) separated by one to two weeks. Pressure pain thresholds were measured on N=98 participants, students of psychology. Subjects were divided into four groups, depending on whether measurement took place in the morning or in the afternoon and on morningness score. On subjects included in final data processing (N=46), significant relationship between Morningness-Eveningness, time-of-day and pressure pain threshold was detected. Group of Morning types in the morning session had smaller pain thresholds than group of Morning types in the afternoon session. Results were reverse for the Evening types. Also, significantly higher pressure pain thresholds were measured on the first measurement on each session.
