Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the possibility of prediction of test anxiety (concern and emotionality) based on predictor variables (persistence, social self-efficacy, perfectionist tendencies, perfectionist concerns and locus of control). Possible gender differences in those predictor variables were also examined. 527 students from the University of Zagreb, Croatia participated in the study. The following instruments were used: The Scale of Persistence, The scale of Perceived Social Self-Efficacy, Rotter’s I-E Scale, Perfectionism Questionnaire and Test Anxiety Inventory. The statistically significant gender difference was observed for the variables concern, emotionality, and locus of control. It was established that female students have higher test anxiety and more external locus of control than male students. Significant predictors for explaining the variance in concern were variables gender, locus of control, perfectionist concerns, social self-efficacy and perfectionist tendency, while significant predictors for explaining the variance in emotionality were variables gender, locus of control, perfectionist concern, social self-efficiency and high standards. The results show that male gender, internal locus of control, high social self-efficiency, high perfectionist tendencies, and low perfectionist concerns are protective factors for test anxiety.
