Abstract
The study explores the differences in the degree of anxiety and fear of negative evaluation between persons who stutter and persons who have never stuttered. The procedure of data collection was conducted online. Endler Multidimensional Anxiety Scales-Trait (EMAS-T) and Brief Fear of Negative Evaluation (FNE) Scale were used. It was shown that persons who stutter achieved higher results on EMAS-T Social Evaluation Scale and EMAS-T Daily Routines Scale, as compared to persons who have never stuttered. The expected difference on the measure of fear of negative evaluation between the same groups has not been confirmed. Also, the significant difference hypotheses using the afore mentioned instruments between persons who stutter and have sought a speech treatment for stuttering, and persons who stutter and have never sought a speech treatment for stuttering, has not been confirmed. In conclusion, the results show that persons who stutter have higher social evaluation trait anxiety and daily routines trait anxiety, as compared to persons who have never stuttered. Additionally, this confirmes the importance of using multidimensional measures of anxiety, such as the EMAS-T instrument, on a sample of persons who stutter.
