Abstract
Personality trait theories suggests that personality is hierarchically organized and conceptualized at different levels: specific reactions level, medium constructs level (facets), five broad factors level and higher-order factor level. This study investigated age and sex pesonality differences at the higher-order factor level. The analysis was conducted on total of 197 ratings of male and female students and adults. The research was conducted within the theoretical framework of the five-factor personality model and two-factor personality structure. Two higher-order factors were extracted (α and β). Dimensions of Emotional stability, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness had their primary loadings on α factor. Dimensions of Extraversion and Openness to Experience had their primary loadings on β factor. Older men scored higher than younger men in α factor. There was no age difference between older and younger women in α factor. Both younger men and women scored higher than older men and women in β factor. Sex differences were not found.
