Abstract
Economic diplomacy has been recognized as an important part of economic development and promotion, as well as international relations fostering. It refers to activities aimed at export increase, attracting foreign investments, membership in international organizations, presentation of possibilities and advantages of the national economy or individual companies, as well as protection of their economic interests. While the developed countries in Europe and worldwide have established the system of economic diplomacy, that is not yet the case in Croatia. According to the results of regional economic diplomacy research conducted in Međimurje county, the system of economic diplomacy does not exist at the regional level either. Moreover, the participants report different understanding and opinions on the concept of economic diplomacy. However, some of the activities referring to economic diplomacy have been implemented in private companies, as well as regional institutions. This has been proved by business success of individual research participants, their presence in foreign
markets and competitiveness, as well as through membership of the county and local governernment in regional international organizations.
