Abstract
This paper attempts to connect the concept of “systemic political corruption”
with the concept of “business climate”. By crossing the classification of definitions of
business climate in theories of Eathington, Todd and Swensson with theoretical
foundations of three types of capital – economical, human and social – this paper
explaines the mechanism by which systemic political corruption (corruption of public
services) is influencing business climate in its every form of definition. Influences of
corruption on foundations of healthy business growth, existing business and reputation
of Croatia as a “business-friendly” country have been explained via mediation of three
types of capital. Effects of this mechanism are shown through examples of some of the
largest Croatian corruption affairs and existing research and data that analyze overall
consequences of long term systemic corruption of public services on Croatian society
and economy.
