Abstract
The aim of this research was to examine differences in dysfunctional relationship beliefs with regard to attachment style and perceived quality of parental relationship. Furthermore, it was investigated if there is association in dysfunctional relationship beliefs among partners. The sample consisted of 282 males and females. In other words, the study included 141 heterosexual romantic couples who live together. Mean age of participants was 36 years (M = 35.9, SD = 11.47). Relationship Belief Inventory (RBI), questions about parental relationship, and the short version of Experiences in Close Relationship Inventory were administered to the participants. Results indicate that subjects with secure attachment style reported significantly less dysfunctional relationship beliefs compared to subjects with insecure attachment style. Also, subjects with low quality of parental relationship had significantly less dysfunctional relationship beliefs compared to subjects with high quality of parental relationship. Association among partners in dysfunctional relationship beliefs was significant, but it was low.
