Abstract

200 participants, 100 men and 100 women, who were all married, participated in the research about changes in marital climate and marital satisfaction after retirement. All of the participants were older adults. A questionnaire of adjustment to retirement, which was comprised of demographic data, questions about retirement, measure of marital satisfaction, love scale (Braiker and Kelley, 1979) and affection and negativity scale (Huston, 2010), was used in the research. The results showed no statistically significant differences in affection and negativity, as well as in marital satisfaction, considering the gender of the participants and their work status. Furthermore, there were no differences in affection and negativity, as well as in marital satisfaction, considering the gender of the participants’ spouses and their work status. Although there were no statistically significant differences, the results showed visible tendencies that were in accordance with the expected, which future research could be able to prove.
