Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate possibilities of use of confidence ratings in psychometric analysis of tasks and in evaluation of individual results, and to explore relationship between confidence ratings and self - esteem. A sample of 97 high school graduates completed preliminary version of Psychological knowledge - test (they wrote - down their confidence ratings for every answer), and Self - Liking / Self - Competence Scale. The results showed positive relationship between average confidence ratings and average of correct responses for every group of tasks in test (four - alternatives tasks, association and assortment tasks, simple open - ended tasks, complex open - ended tasks), except for group of true / false tasks. In most of tasks, participants who answered correctly had larger confidence ratings than those who answered incorrectly. Results showed poor positive relationship between results in knowledge - test and average confidence ratings related to correct answers. We found no relationship between results in knowledge - test and average confidence ratings related to incorrect answers. The examinees assigned larger confidence ratings to correct answers in contrast to incorrect answers. There was a small negative relationship between results in knowledge - test and results in self - liking. Results on self - competence and results in knowledge - test did not correlate. Results in self - competence and self - liking were in small positive correlation with confidence ratings related to incorrect answers.
