Abstract
Children's book is an important element which partakes in education of youngest generations. That's why it is important to determine contemporary situation of children's book considering historical context in which it occured. This research paper gives insight into historical development of children's book and children's literature in Croatia and explores it's contemporary situation from perspective of librarianship and throughout the viewpoints of writers, illustrators and other experts on the field as well. Children's book is a very important topic in libraries today, so the other part of this work is dedicated to exploring of establishment and development of children's book in library context. In the end an inquiry
was made in order to find out how the children's book is promoted and valorized in children's book departments of libraries. This work shall try to sintetize the sum of important factors that are attached to children's book and from viewpoint of librarianship.
