Abstract
The focus of this doctoral dissertation lies on the popular literary element in the works of Luka Ilić Oriovčanin (1817 – 1878). We approach Oriovčanin’s works from the perspective of popular literature, problematise the popular literary phenomenon, and identify crucial poetic characteristics of popular literature. The subject of the dissertation neccessitated a selective approach to the work of Luka Ilić Oriovčanin, selecting those printed works with a prominent popular element: Slavonske varoške pěsme (1844 – 1847), Lovorike (1874) and Narodni slavonski običaji (1846).
