Abstract
This paper questions the importance of krsnik as traditional medicine practitioner in northern Istria through the twentieth century. By presenting ethnographic material collected during field research the author tries to explain the role of krsnik in the local community in the past and today. Research showed that krsnik did not have the role of doctor in the local community. His services were used on rare occasions and only in case of more serious curses. During this period, the belief in krsnici has lost its intensity. As a result, no informant could name one living krsnik in northern Istria, nor did they hear about more recent examples of traditional medical practice provided by krsnik.
