Abstract
The topic of this thesis is theoretical and practical issues of development, presentation and communication of local history collections in Croatian public libraries. Libraries are part of the library, archive and museum association for which heritage and its communication is the main preoccupation. Local history collections are heritage institutions and, as such, are the main places for preservation of local and national identity. In modern globalization trends this identity may be endangered.
For development and maintenance of local history collections strategy and policy of collection development should be defined in general, and especially with regard to digitisation.
