Abstract
This paper presents the most significant characteristics of individual and common pseudonyms and gives guidelines for cataloguers who should when dealing with the selection of the determinants for individual pseudonyms always follow the essential assignments of the alphabetical catalogue. The article 96 of the Eva Verona Code and Manual for the Compilation of Alphabetical Catalogues states the rules for the choice and the form of the unique assignments for pseudonym names which Croatian cataloguers ought to adhere to.By a comparative analysis of the online catalogue of the National and University Library in Zagreb, Joint catalogue of Croatian libraries, The Zagreb City Libraries, Library of Congress and the Virtual International Authority File (VIAF) this paper verifies whether the general rules of the Universal Bibliographic Control are followed by cataloguers or not. The obtained results show that cataloguers on one hand partially follow the Eva Verona's Code but on the other hand in some cases deviate from it. In order to prevent any deviations the authors of this paper point out the necessity of strictly following the rules given by the Code and of the mutual collaboration in order to achieve equal treatment of pseudonyms in all Croatian online catalogues.
