Abstract
Digital image processing has led to the need of introducing a color management system. The problem lies in the increasing number of devices in the process of image reproduction, in which each device, because of a limited range of colors it can produce, generates color in a
different way. The cooperation of large international companies has brought to the development of the ICC profile and the Color Management system that allows precise transfer of color, regardless of the medium used. The successful operation of the system requires thecalibration and characterization of all of the devices in the chain of creating an image and the use of appropriate software for converting color values. The main components of the system are: the reference color space, ICC profiles, a module with algorithms for color matching and gamut mapping. Each one of them has a particular role in the conversion of color.
