Abstract

This text examines the place of the didgeridoo – a global cultural artefact, whose meaning widens day by day – in contemporary culture. Popular culture holds a great number of examples of fascination by the didgeridoo and it seems that the instrument lends itself easily to the western culture which in turn borrows the didgeridoo as a perfect simbolic place in which it can inscribe an infinite code of new meanings appropriate to modern people. I have analysed the place of didgeridoo in popular culture through "the circuit of culture" (du Gay et al 1997) and in so doing I indicated some particularities and novelties of the didgeridoo, the discourse of which is articulated by a number of processes. The Croatian "didgeridoo scene" is abundant with examples that create that what the didgeridoo is today.
