Abstract

The topic of this paper is to review the film archives with a focus on materials being kept at the Croatian Film Archives. The paper discusses the importance and the need to preserve and protect the filmstrip and the challenges faced by film archivists. It consists of five parts. The first part refers to the beginnings of film archives and the need to preserve film heritage. The second part deals with the Croatian Film Archive (Kinoteka) and a list of items it contains. The third section includes steps necessary for the protection of film heritage. The fourth part addresses the issues related to the modern world and the increasing rise of digital technology, thus the digital movies. The last part introduces the Code of Ethics for film archives.
