Abstract
This research encompasses the built heritage from the 13th to the 16th centuries, developed for
the Kalnik, Komarnik and Čazma Archdeaconries of the Zagreb Bishopric. The main goal of
the research was to confirm the state of preservation of the said structures, give an overview
of building practices in the area and determine the causes and effects between the territorial
organization and the diffusion and formation of the building industry. What is understood here
under the broad term of built heritage, is the then period representative architecture, as well
as aristocratic castles (fortified towns) and church buildings, whose fragments have been preserved
well enough in order for their position and purpose to be determined. It is necessary to
stress what kind of approach has been taken here, as only one part of this medieval architectural
opus has been analyzed, while other parts of the complex remain unknown for now (rural
residential architecture, outbuildings and, especially, urban residential architecture). In order
for this analysis to be successful, lesser known results from previous architectural, conservational
and restoration research have been used, which either confirm or deny the verification
of a certain architectural structure as being from the Middle Ages.
