Abstract
The paper, which relies on Luhmann's theory of coding, analyses the social organization and reorganization of intimacy. In Luhmann's systematic analysis love is conceptualized as a symbolic generalized medium of communication. This means that Luhmann is not focused on feeling; he handles love as a symbolic, common, social code that governs our behavior for centuries. It is a model that is initially available as knowledge, but eventually becomes mechanism deeply internalized in our emotional habits. The work follows Luhmann's study of novels, maxims and treatises that create the semantics of love or standardized meaning that we use to establish and maintain our relationships. Love is therefore culturological practice with specific codes that evolve through history: ideal, paradox, romantic love, and finally problem because with the autonomy of love, (semantic) guidelines lose their authority. The paper seeks to present and explore the alternative view on the concept of love, which combines perspectives of social constructivism and philosophy of culture.
