Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between agreeableness as a personality trait and tendency of using altruistic lies, as well as to examine the possibility of utilizing such relationship for detecting response distortion in professional selection. In this study 200 student participants filled-in IPIP 100 questionnaire and Altruistic Lying Scale in two dependant situations: honest responding situation and simulated selection. The main assumption was that altruistic lying and agreeableness will positively correlate in honest responding situation, while the correlation will be negative in simulated selection because it was expected that in selection situation participants will tend to describe themselves as an agreeable persons who are not prone to lying. Contrary to expectations, no correlation was found between altruistic lying and agreeableness in either of situations.
