Abstract

During the job selection procedures with the aim of choosing the best candidate for a certain job, a frequently occurring problem is response distortion on personality tests. According to former research results it is not possible to determine to what extent the participants successfully fake their answers in order to obtain the results of an ideal candidate for a certain job. We have tried with this research to get the answer to that question. The aim of the research has been to determine how capable the participants are of assessing the qualities of an ideal candidate for the positions of a manager and a nurse, and how capable they are of successfully faking the answers on a personality test so that they reflect their ideal profile for those positions, as well as the ideal profile assessed by experts. In order to get the answers to the raised problem, we have obtained results from 204 participants in three situations: giving truthful answers, faking answers on the personality test for the purpose of achieving an ideal candidate profile for the positions of a manager and a nurse, and the assessment of the ideal profile qualities for the above mentioned positions. Additionally, eight expert assessments of the ideal profiles for a manager and a nurse have been acquired. The obtained results showed that the participants are capable of assessing the qualities of an ideal candidate profile for the above mentioned positions and can successfully fake their answers and achieve the results of their imagined ideal profile as well as the one assessed by experts.
