Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between athletes' personality traits and their perception of relationship quality with their coach and to examine the relationship of personality traits and relationship quality with athletes' general satisfaction with athlete-coach relationship. The participants were 62 athletes (45 water polo players and 17 swimmers). The Big Five Inventory and The coach – athlete relationship questionnaire, which included one item of general satisfaction with the relationship, were administered. Relationship between personality traits, relationship quality and relationship satisfaction was tested with Pearson correlation coefficients. Results showed moderate positive correlation of personality traits exstraversion and conscientiousness with relationship quality and low positive correlation between agreeableness and relationship quality. Extraversion and conscientiousness were found to be in low positive correlation with relationship satisfaction, while athletes' perception of relationship quality was found to be in high positive correlation with relationship satisfaction.
