Abstract

Business Information Management System (Business Intelligence) is a mechanism that involves the collection and processing of data and information and its analysis, after which the same become a powerful tool in the hands of the (business) decision-makers. Good (business) decision means the creation of competitive advantages of a business entity, successful business entities (companies) directly influences the competitiveness of national economy which influences social prosperity of the nation. Implementing the system at all levels (national and regional) and in all spheres (public and private) economy, and hence social events progress is indisputable, evidence are examples of countries that have implemented business intelligence system. With the aim of detecting the status of implementation of management systems to business information research conducted in the largest companies in North-West Croatia. Between the 168 companies who participated in the survey 20% of them have institutionalized a system of managing business information, more than half (54%) companies in North-West Croatia apply some of the activities of the system. The results showed that companies in most cases ignore the information about the environment (political and security situation and the socio-cultural aspects) and most are focused on their products and services and consumers indicating lack of familiarity with the system, and analogously the partial application of business intelligence systems. The findings also showed that large firms is significantly more applied activities of the management of business information than small and medium-sized companies, and plans to introduce new activities and the institutionalization of the system exist only in one quarter of the companies that do not apply any system activity managing business information.
