Abstract

Paper brings brief overlook of weblog development and usage as a specific genre and examines the development of the very phenomenon in Croatia. Overviewing several issues researched in the blogging field in other states, hypotheses on gender representation and differences in using a particular kind of blog, the level of anonimyty and additional blog features, were chosen to be evaluated in this research. Blogs analysed in this particular research were some of the oldest and active blogs in Croatian blogoshere. Analysis took part from December 2009. till March 2010. Qualitative content anaylsis was used and it was consisted of two parts. Sociodemographic information on authors, the level of anonymyty and additional blog tools usage and types of blog were included in the first part; appropriate cathegories were made for each segment of analysis. Subcategories of listed segments were quantified and the difference between the analysed sample of blogs and the actual population of blogs in Croatia, was noticed on several characteristics. The hypothesis on personal diary as mostly a feminine genre, was accepted, but assumed difference between men and women when it comes to using additional blog features and the level of visual and discursive anonymity, was not found (Qian& Scott, 2007). A set of questions for narrative analysis (Avila Tapies, 2008) was used in the second part of analysis. Several attitudes toward the blog, other blogers, their interactions and the very phenomenon, were remarked as the crucial findings. Certain faults in research were highlighted and advices were given for future steps.
