Abstract

Along with the development of technology and new types of sources, information literacy has become the most important skill in today's world. In order to have information literate people in future, it is important to enable the teaching of information literacy from the earliest age, i.e. in elementary schools. This paper deals with the term “information literacy” itself, it shows how it is treated in education in Croatia and in other countries, and the second part of the paper will show the level of information literacy among the finishing students of elementary school. We will see if the students can use various types of sources, which types they use and are they and what kind are the differences in relation to certain factors. This paper also shows the problems that arose during the reserch and in the end gives guidelines for the future.
