Abstract

This paper describes functionalities and implementation methods of location services (Google maps API, Location manager, Geocoder) on mobile Android devices. It attempts to defend the thesis that publicly available location services are sufficiently accurate and implementation firendly to allow rapid and simple development of applications which rely on these services. To achive this goal the paper presents a mobile application which allows automatic sending of parking payment text messages. It describes, in detail, implementation of location services, SMS services and other programming techniques used in the development of the application and its user interface on an Android mobile device.
