Abstract
The subject is a small library of Polish cultural organization „Mikołaj Kopernik“ which is active in Zagreb, there will also be a review of a little collection of the school of Polish language in Zagreb. The main subject is the library “Mikołaj Kopernik” with a description of history and organization’s activity. Library of “Mikołaj Kopernik” is included to the category of special libraries because it exists first and foremost to satisfy the needs of the institution of which it is a part of. Big part of their role is to promote polish culture and literature. Their wish is to gather people of polish nationality. Another great role of theirs is to promote their native habits. They cooperate with many organizations in Croatia and abroad. This library’s advantage is the fact that they import literature in polish language and makes it possible for Poles to read in their native language as it does for everyone who knows and speaks Polish. It is also very helpful to students of polish language because reading simplifies learning the language which is easier to do with modern literature. These types of libraries are very important because they have a certain freedom when it comes to their collections. They can focus on specific areas of interest. Also there is no need to satisfy a broad specter of users because in special libraries they gather around similar interests. This library’s collection is mainly in polish with a little collection of translations to Croatian. Books are mostly modern literature that is currently popular in Poland.
