Abstract

The main objective of this study is to investigate and analyse frequent sports collocations in Swedish and Croatian. This study also shows how the term collocation is defined in the field of corpus linguistics and gives general information about two corpus search methods in two large electronic corpora – the Swedish Korp and the Croatian HNK. The results of the conducted corpus searches show that the most frequent construction types of sports collocations with a nominal node in Swedish and Croatian are: adjective + noun, verb + noun, noun + noun, and noun + prepositional phrase. Finally, the lexicographic methods implemented in the construction of two separate collocation lists for each language are explained.
