Abstract
This paper aims to display and analyse the success of Europeana as a result of the development of Semantic Web and Linked Open Data technologies within the realm of cultural heritage. The central point of the analysis are the requirements that institutions need to comply with in order to display their objects on Europeana. The paper displays the structure and elements of Europeana's data models (ESE, EDM) and how well they can adapt to data models found in archives, libraries and museums (EAD, MARC, METS/MODS, LIDO). Also described in this paper are projects that made Linked Data and Europeana possible. The final part of the paper describes the experiences of Croatian GLAM institutions currently working with Europeana, displaying the flow and challenges found in the way of such a collaboration.
