Abstract
The InterPARES project started with the goal to analyse records in an electronic environment. Until today four phases have been formed. Even though each of them deals with a different field of digital records, they are connected. In the first InterPARES project the important terms about the characteristics and preservation of records were defined, for example their identity and integrity. A long-term preservation requires a reliable system and also a reliable preserver of records that keeps it unchanged. The InterPARES 2 project was about research of experiential, interactive and dynamic records. It was carried out through case studies from artistic, scientific and governmental fields. The InterPARES 3 project focused on the digital systems of small and medium-sized archival organizations. Some important problems addressed were those regarding metadata and e-mail preservation. The last and still ongoing phase of the project is called InterPARES Trust. Its goal is to develop trust in the records entrusted to the Internet. The series of InterPARES projects represent international research of constantly growing number of digital records. The ultimate goal is to preserve authenticity, reliability and accuracy of records. All of these elements are essential for a long-term preservation of records in a digital environment.
